Palm Springs is not where you want to be stranded on the side of the road as a motorist because your car battery died. The number one reason for calling a tow truck is that a car's battery has died. The high heat of the summer not only wears your energy down, but it can also weaken your car's battery. A press release recently issued by AutoZone informs drivers of the risks of the high temperatures summer brings with it on their car batteries. According to the press release, the heat of summer is the leading cause of corrosion for car batteries, which in turn is the leading cause of car battery failure leaving drivers stranded.

Contrary to popular opinion, your car's battery will not give you any real warning about it being on the edge of dieing. You can have your battery tested at a mechanic or retailers such as AutoZone and other car supply stores, but that does not guarentee the length of your battery's life. In general car batteries last three to five years on average. The driving conditions along with weather conditions that they are exposed to though can have significant effects on these estimates. Some factor's that can reduce the length of your battery life according to the press release include the outside temperature, the age of your car, and the type of use your car receives.
Keep in mind that car batteries are used to a higher degree of stress these days than they were in the past. There are many different electronic devices people use in their cars that are now wired into the battery. They are either hardwired to the electrical system of the car or plug in through the outlet traditionally used for cigarette lighters. Some of these devices include satellite radios, GPS systems, portable DVD players, and radar detectors. The press release indicated even without this additional useage that car batteries in warmer climates on average last much closer to three years than five years.
